Welcome to
the Division of Environment at HKUST. We are living in a world
facing serious interrelated
environmental problems including climate change,
pervasive pollution, reduction in biodiversity, and looming supply
constraints for a number of key natural resources. Individually,
and especially in combination, these issues pose serious challenges
to sustainable development. Managing and minimizing these challenges
requires an integrated, multidisciplinary approach involving basic
and applied scientists, technologists, integrators, and policy
makers in academia, industries and the government. The Division
of Environment is a newly created interdisciplinary academic unit
under the Interdisciplinary Program Office in order to meet such
challenges. Faculty members of the Division have a diverse background
in science, engineering, business and social sciences to provide
integrated and cutting edge undergraduate and postgraduate education
on global environmental issues and emerging solutions.
In 2010, we will have our very first batch of students in the BSc Environmental Management and Technology Program. This is a unique innovative program that will prepare environmental leaders for the business sector, where "Wall Street meets Green Street". We also offer MSc, MPhil and PhD degree programs in Environmental Science and Atmospheric and Marine Science. I encourage you to explore and participate in our exciting programs in education and research.
